04/30/2003:
I watched Robert Altman's Fool for Love, and it was really bad. I started watching Beyond Therapy, which is pretty bad, too.
04/26/2003:
I made a new graphic for the ol' homepage.
04/22/2003:
I’ve been super tired all day. I only worked a half-day in the Life Skills class, so it doesn’t make sense that I’d be so tired. I just zoned out while trying to write this.
04/21/2003:
Yesterday I went to my mom’s house, and my brother and I hunted for Easter eggs.
04/16/2003:
I had a crappy day at work.
04/15/2003:
I’m watching Somer watch episodes of “Felicity.” It’s cute.
04/14/2003:
Saturday morning my mom picked me up in Austin, and we headed up to Arlington to go to my old roommate’s sister’s wedding. During the drive my mom and I mainly talked about my future career plans in teaching and what I need to do to get there. We also stopped at an outlet mall, so she could buy me some dress shoes, so I wouldn’t have to wear my sneakers with my suit. Once we got to Arlington, we had trouble finding the hotel, so finally my mom used her cellular telephone to get directions. My mom had reserved a room with two double beds and a rollaway, but we ended up with a room with one big bed and a rollaway; it was no big deal, though. We got ready and then headed over to the church. After we were seated, my brother, dad and step-mom showed up, but were seated at another pew.
The wedding was nice and short, although I never know what to do with myself when there is a group prayer. I end up looking around to see if there is anyone else who doesn’t have his or her head bowed and there eyes closed. Anyway, everyone looked good in their wedding outfits, and there were a few unconventional touches that kept it interesting, like a woman sang a Bruce Springsteen song and my old roommate, Andrew, was part of the “bridal party,” instead of being a groomsmen. I joked with my mom that Andrew was always the bride’s maid, but never the bride.
After the wedding, my mom and I headed over to the wedding reception in Fort Worth. I got to talk to some relatives and parents and siblings of friends whom I hadn’t talked to in a long time and heard what they are up to. I also got to talk to Andrew for a while. We’ve only talked a few times, since we stopped being roommates, but it wasn’t awkward, and hopefully he’ll be moving back to Austin sometime soon. After a few hours, my mom and I headed back to the hotel room, and a little later my brother showed up, and he and my mom shared the big bed, and I slept on the rollaway.
The next morning my mom and I went over to Andrew’s parents’ house to have breakfast. I talked to Andrew’s mom for awhile about my future career plans in teaching and what I need to do to get there. After about an hour my mom and I headed back to Austin.
When we got into town, we stopped by my house, and I tried to call Somer, but she was out getting plant survey training, so my mom and I went out to get Asian food, and then my mom left for San Antonio.
A little later my brother stopped by on his way back to San Antonio. We talked for awhile, and then he left. Then Somer and I met some of her friends for dinner. Once I got home, I was pretty tired, so I went to sleep.
04/11/2003:
I went to a park with the Life Skills students today. We had a blast, except I got a slight sunburn. There were all sorts of crafts and activities for the kids, and there was even some live music, which was actually pretty good. One mentally handicapped guy got up on stage and sang and played the guitar. He did a rockin’ rendition of “Blue Suede Shoes” and an original, which had stream-of-conscious lyrics that were pretty funny. I wish I could remember his name, ‘cause I really want to hear that song again.
When we got back to the school one of the students spit on me, but I didn’t let it ruin my great day. It was actually kind of funny (but gross).
04/10/2003:
After work I went jogging with Somer and one of her friends. Now my lungs hurt.
04/08/2003:
Well, I managed to register for the fall semester at Southwest Texas State University. I’ll be taking my first of seven education courses so I can get my Teacher Certification. I missed registering for the summer, but I may be able to do late registration in May, so I could be taking classes as soon as June. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not.
04/03/2003:
Robert Altman is totally awesome!
04/02/2003:
I had a roller-coaster day. I subbed for an English teacher, and the morning classes went really well. The students were friendly, and we had a lot of fun. After lunch everything went to shit. Somebody stole a girl wallet, and I had to send a bunch of students to the office, ‘cause they were out of control. Two kids almost got into a fight. It was fucking stressful.
Near the end of the day, I saw the teacher I subbed for yesterday, and she thanked me for doing such a good job, so that made me feel a little better.
04/01/2003:
I watched Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice and Frankenweenie after work today. I loved Beetlejuice when I was a kid, and it still holds up very well. I forgot that I used to go around quoting lines from the movie. Stuff like, “I’ve come for your daughter, Chuck,” and “I’m the ghost with the most, babe.” Man, I was such a dork. Was or am?
