I’ve been having trouble enjoying my summer break, ‘cause I’ve been sick almost the whole time. It’s some kind of cold/flu/sinus infection combo that I’m slowly getting over. Since I’m on break I’ve been able to rest a lot, but there have been a few days when I had to go to workshops and it sucked, ‘cause just the pressure of air hurt my skin and I have coughing fits every ten or fifteen minutes.
05/25/2005:
Man, it has been a crazy month. I finished my certification program and am now certified in special education and middle school generalist (math, science, reading/language arts, social studies). Today I had the last day with my kids and tomorrow is just a half-day to wrap things up.
04/30/2005:
I found out yesterday that I did pass my test, so now I can teach middle school science, math, reading/language arts and social studies (general or special ed.). Next I will take the EC-4 Generalist test, so I can teach elementary school, too.
Also last Saturday The Evildoers played a show at Room 710 and it went really well. The other bands (Bellaparker, Quien ‘es, BOOM! and Maneja Beto) all seemed to enjoy our set and want to play more shows with us, so hopefully we’ll have more gigs soon. We also made more money in one night than all my other bands combined.
04/10/2005:
I just got back from Crown Violet practice. It's really starting to come together. It's much heavier than The Evildoers. We only have two songs worked up, so far, but hopefully I talked Xander into adding "Unequivocal Failure" to our set, since he dropped it from The Evildoers' repertoire. I'm not sure if I'm up to the task of writing heavy metal/prog rock songs, so I don't know how much of a songwriting influence I'll have on this band. That might be a good thing.
Oh yeah, I have no idea how I did on that test. If all my educated guesses were right, then I'll probably pass, but I'm not getting my hopes up. If I don't pass, it won't be a big deal, since I don't need to have the certification until the end of the 2005-2006 school year, if even then. I may not need it at all. TEA seems to change its mind every day. I want to pass it, though, since it will make me more marketable in the future.
On last thing, that drinkin' a lot statement in my last post just referred to that one night when I accidentally drank too much wine ('cause I usually drink beer and know what my limit is). I made some pretty "interesting" telephone calls and posts on myspace that night.

Wish me luck on my test tomorrow. If I pass it, then I may teach any core middle school subject (special ed. or general ed.). It's pretty silly that a middle school life skills teacher would need to take this test. It's like they're tempting me to switch to resource or inclusion or general ed. I'll stay in life skills just to spite them.
Oh yeah, I'm drinkin'. A lot.
