07/31/2001:
Somer and I took Somer’s cousin Sarah and Sarah’s boyfriend to the Alamo and the Riverwalk, then Fiesta Texas. The Riverwalk seemed magical when I was a kid, but now it’s just like any old strip mall. I don’t know if it changed or I changed. It’s depressing. But Fiesta Texas was kick ass. It was hotter and the lines were longer than when Somer and I went in May, but we got to ride two rides that were closed the first time we went and we brought swimsuits so we could enjoy the waterpark section, so I’m glad we went back.
Since we got back to Austin, I’ve been mainly watching movies and playing Bust A Move. I’m just taking it easy. I was duped into watching Saving Silverman and House on Haunted Hill (the remake) by the kids (my term of endearment for Sarah and Co), but managed to see a few good flicks: Top Hat, The Lady from Shanghai, Perfect Blue, Jeux Interdits and Citizen X. Citizen X took me by surprise. It’s an HBO original movie that’s not very artfully made, but it has a pretty compelling story, so I got caught up in it. It was really manipulative and I fell for it.

07/24/2001:
Well, I'm off on another trip. See ya'.

07/20/2001:
Over the last week I’ve toured former Presidents’ homes (Jefferson, Monroe and Jackson), watched country music legends at the Grand Ole Opry (Porter Wagoner, Jean Shepard, Crystal Gayle, Jimmy Dickens and Riders in the Sky), toured the Country Music Hall of Fame, Graceland and Sun Records, eaten at a boatload of restaurants and driven a more miles than I’d like to think about through four states (Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee and Virginia). Although I had a blast, I’m glad to be back in Austin, Texas.

07/11/2001:
It's the first day of my roadtrip with my mom. We got to my brother's house in Dallas around 4 or 5 PM. We talked for a little while, then ate dinner. Then my brother had to do some work, so my mom and I sat around reading. Once my brother was done working, we all went out to get ice-cream and picked up a movie, To Be or Not to Be, which was really funny--a strange mix of comedy and drama (even action).
I'm using my brother's iMac to type this and it's kind of hard to use. I guess, I'm just a dumb PC kinda guy.
Tomorrow our real trek starts.

07/05/2001:
In about ten minutes I’ll be eating cake with my co-workers. We will be celebrating my last day of work at CheckFree Corporation. Once I finish eating some cake and saying good-byes, I’ll go home and watch Robert Altman’s Nashville.

07/02/2001:
I don’t know...I haven’t had much to say since I got back from my vacation. I’ve just been working, but that’s about to end...at least for about a month. I’m getting out of the property management biz and into the teaching biz. I don’t really know what to expect, but I hope I'll enjoy it, ‘cause I want to find a career that makes me feel good about myself. Welp, for now, I’ve just got to wait and see what happens.
