12/31/2003:
I’m pretty happy with how this year turned out. I got a cool job, I got into the Region XIII program, and I started a new band. I bought a car, kept a roof over my head, food on my plate and still had money left over to save and even a little more to spend on movies, music, books, digital cable, broadband Internet service and other luxuries. Most importantly, my relationship with Somer gets better and better. It’s been 4.5 years, and we’re still going strong.

My first winter break has gone well, except that I started getting sick on Monday and ended up with the flu yesterday. I went to the doctor last night and got some medicine, which is working very well, so I’m doing much better. Anyway, I managed to celebrate the holidays with my dad and Somer’s family early in the week, and then I headed down to my mom’s for Christmas Eve and spent two days there (getting sicker and sicker). Somer came down Christmas evening, which made everyone happy (especially me). I managed to get everything I wanted and everyone seemed to really like my gifts, so I won’t complain too much about my illness. It’s better I get sick over my break than when I need to go to work.

I made it through the rest of the week without being attacked by any students. On Friday we took the students to see The Cat in the Hat. I thought it was awful, but the kids loved it, and it was fun for me to see the kids enjoying it.
Today Somer and I went Christmas shopping, and I managed to pick a few things up. I’m almost done, in fact, which is very unusual for me. Most years I’m still looking for something on Christmas Eve. Around 7 PM, I met up with Xander and Joe, and we had a kick ass practice at the Music Lab. Now I just have to finish the laundry, watch "The Show with No Name", and go to bed.

Today one student slapped me and another scratched me.

I had an ok week if you don’t count getting a chair thrown at me. Friday night I drove Somer and me to my mom’s to celebrate my brother’s birthday. We came back Saturday afternoon, and I spent the rest of the weekend researching Christmas gifts for other people and watching Godard movies.

A kid threw a chair at me today.

Somer and I went to the Metroplex for Thanksgiving. We ate turkey, etc. at Somer’s sister and Savannah and Shanie were cute as ever. Somer, Shanie and I went to the playground and played Lava Monster. I also had some eggnog at my dad’s place. Last night I hung out and played video games at Andy’s place. This morning I drove Somer and myself back to Austin, and then we went to the grocery store. A little later Renee came over, and she and I worked on some Evildoers’ songs. Now I’m going to bed.
11/22/2003:
Somer and I went to see The Show With No Name: Raw, Uncensored & Totally Nude - Electric Boogaloo at the Alamo Drafthouse this evening. It was more gross than funny, but that's not a bad thing. I dug the light show, too.

I spent Tuesday and Wednesday at a workshop learning the Satori Alternatives to Managing Aggression. I really enjoyed the class, so it was like a mini-vacation. If I hadn’t had to go back to my school at 4 PM to work detention, then it would have been a perfect two days. It was a bummer going back to work today, but I’d missed the kids, so it really wasn’t bad, and I even got to try some of the stuff I’d learned on Tuesday, because one of the students got really angry near the end of the day and was throwing stuff and breaking pens, so I used the “assisting process” to find out what was wrong and helped him figure out how he could make things better. I still need more practice, though.
11/16/2003:
I had another rough week at work. I’ve started covering after-school detention, which makes my day an hour or two longer. We also had a lot of discipline problems that kind of stressed me out at times. I’m not sure why I’m always stuck dealing with the acting out students. I guess it’s because I’m willing to do it.
The Evildoers had a practice at my place on Friday. Xander got an amp, so it’s probably time to start going to a rehearsal lab, so I don’t get evicted. As soon as we add a drummer, we’ll be set. We’ve got about nine songs worked up so far, so we’ll probably be ready to play a show in a few months.
11/09/2003:
The past week was hell at work. I felt like shit, and a lot of teachers were out, which made things harder for me. It rained when I had to do the recycling with some of the kids. It sucked! Well, I made it through the week. I also went to the doctor on Wednesday and got some stuff for my allergies, and it’s finally kicking in, I think, although I’ve been getting carsick lately, which could be a side effect, maybe. There’s always something! Last night Somer and I went to see Elf. It was cute and funny, but going to a first-run movie at night is a pain-in-the-ass! I won’t be doing that for awhile.

Work’s been crazy lately. Everyone's sick, including me.
